Gender-based Violence among International Students in Canada

The SSHRC-funded knowledge synthesis project at the University of Guelph will examine the issue of gender-based violence among international students in Canada through a scoping review of relevant scholarly literature, statistics, policy documents and reports from government and community organizations. The draft scoping review will be discussed in workshops with different stakeholders and finalized in the form of a peer-reviewed journal article and podcast, video, and a report. We expect the GRAs to be involved in preparing the scoping review, workshops, critical note taking and transcription, and dissemination. 

The project is seeking two graduate students at the Masters or PhD level of any discipline, to join our team as Research Assistants from February 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023, with the possibility of an extension till the end of the year. Hours of work will be between 20 to 30 hours per month. It is anticipated that all/most work will be done remotely. This position pays $22 to $28 per hour. Required

  • Currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in any discipline in a Canadian university
  • Gender background (through research, coursework, non-academic, voluntary work)
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience undertaking scholarly literature review>; analyzing and synthesizing theories and findings, and to make an organized argument about the body of research on a topic.
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Demonstrated qualitative research skills
  • Readiness to learn

Desirable: An understanding of newcomer/immigrant experiences. We welcome applications especially from current international graduate students.
