Dr. Praveen Saxena delivered the Dr G Rangaswami Endowment Lecture at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, India in March 2020.

Plants respond to the stimuli that are usually created in the external environment despite the lack of a proper nervous system and other related components. It is fascinating that the neurotransmitters that play a vital role in signal transmission in animals, also influence plant development, reproduction and stress adaptations. The talk provided an overview of the role of melatonin and serotonin in diverse physiological processes and survival in response to biotic and abiotic challenges.
