This in-person seminar explores the potential application of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which allows for the international transfer of mitigation outcomes (ITMOs), in India where coal still dominates the energy mix. By examining models of ITMO-enabled energy trade, we assess whether importing low-carbon fuels such as liquified natural gas (LNG) could help India achieve its environmental goals while addressing domestic energy needs. The implications of low carbon energy trade for energy pricing, economic outcomes, and India’s ambitious renewable energy goals, are also studied, offering insights for policymakers interested in India's sustainable energy transition.
