My doctoral research focuses on studying maternal ambivalence within contemporary Indian fiction. This examination seeks to understand how societal expectations of idealized motherhood create a significant emotional burden for women who do not conform to these established norms. This dissonance can often lead to internal struggles characterized by feelings of guilt, uncertainty, and the ongoing negotiation between personal aspirations and societal pressures. By employing frameworks from South Asian feminism and motherhood studies, my research aims to shed light on how these fictional narratives challenge the dominant heteropatriarchal system.

I am highly motivated to join CIRCLE due to its commitment to research seminars and fostering a collaborative community dedicated to high-quality research on contemporary social issues within the Indo-Canadian context, particularly regarding gender policies and programs. I am particularly interested in accessing the latest scholarship on South Asian/Indian politics and socio-gender dynamics, which will undoubtedly enhance my own research in motherhood studies and potentially contribute to broader global recognition of my work in this area.
