My PhD research aims to study the ways in which women’s voices are articulated within the context of rural north Indian women’s songs. I refer to such practices in my research as “vocal traditions” to highlight the socio-cultural politics and performativity of voice and its improvisatory potentialities. I explore how multimodal ethnography might facilitate a space for rural women to exchange and digitally share their songs with other community members across gender, caste and generation.

Network with other scholars researching India and Indian communities in Canada, and also share about my research experiences.
